There are some important steps you need to take when selling a brooch on Facebook groups. It took me a while to get a hang on it and it was very overwhelming and stressful! This post will take you through all the steps you need to know, so you can be selling like a pro!
You can learn more tips and tricks about brooches here.
Step 1: Find the button
First of all you need to scroll to the top of the page to find the button with ‘sell something’.
Step 2: Filling out the form
Now that you have clicked on the button this form should appear in the middle of the page.
Your location should have been automatically added, if not or there is a mistake as your location. Now you would need to state what you are selling. If you are selling one brooch, like the example below then I would recommend stating the brand/maker and name of the brooch or if you don’t know the name than what you would call it such as ‘white rabbit brooch’. If you are selling multiple brooches in a post then I would recommend calling it ‘assorted brooches’ or ‘small brooch sale’, etc.
Now we can add the price. If you are selling one brooch then add the price you are selling your brooch for. If you are selling multiple brooches then I would recommend putting in the price ‘$123’ as this is what is commonly done when selling multiple brooches.
Now we need to add the photos of the brooch or brooches. If you are selling one brooch then I would include a photo of the front and the back of the brooch. If there are scratches or any faults then make sure you add an extra photo or video that clearly shows the faults. If you are selling multiple brooches then I would recommend taking a group photo of the front and back of all the brooches. Then you can add close up photos of the brooches, but this is not necessary if you can clearly see each brooch in the group photo; however I would recommend this as it helps buyers clearly see each brooch.
Now we can start on the description. Even though it says ‘optional’ It is a very important step that can NOT be missed. In the description there are some important things you need to include such as:
- Cost of postage; if you’re in Australia than just add postage within AU, but if you are outside of AU then make sure you include postage within your country and international. Also TRACKING is a MUST!
- Quality of the brooch; this includes any faults or scratches, if you are the 1st or 2nd owner of the brooch, and how many times it has been worn (such as worn: once or twice, lots, never worn, etc), make sure you state if the brooch is a second
- Make sure you restate the brand/maker and brooch you are selling
- If you want payment immediately or within 24 hours
- It is usually a good idea to state why you are selling, as it makes you seem more trustworthy
If you are selling MULTPLE brooches this is the time where you state each brooch and the price. For this you would make a list with the:
- Brand
- Brooch name or description
- Quality
- Price
For example: Deer Arrow Bert the Budgie brooch, $80 (worn twice, no faults)
Step 3: After the form
Now you have to click the next button where it will give you multiple groups (if you belong to multiple) to post your listing in. You can list in multiple pages for a wider audience but this can be overwhelming so I would recommend only listing in one or two places.
Step 4: Publish and wait
Now all you have to do is press the ‘publish’ button and your brooch should be listed. Now you will have to wait for people to comment saying ‘sold’. This can sometimes take between minutes and hours. Once someone has commented ‘sold’ you should comment asking then to PM you.
Step 5: PMs
Once someone has sent you a PM it will pop up in either message requests or messages. The buyer may ask you questions about the brooch or for more photos which you can answer too. Once this has happened you can send them your email for your PayPal and double check the amount including postage (tracking is a MUST, so make sure you include it in the postage price). Make sure you also receive their address.
Make sure you read our post on selling safely with PayPal. This blogpost also tells you what to do if the buyer puts the wrong postal address into paypal.
Step 6: Payment and postage
Once they have paid, make sure you check your PayPal for the money to go through.
Once this is done you need to post the brooch. Make sure you post the brooch within 3 days of receiving payment and send the tracking (make sure you included tracking in the postal cost) information to the buyer. When you send the brooch make sure you include the packaging (if you have any) and bubble wrap the brooch. I would recommend posting the brooch in a bubble wrap lined bag or box with tissue paper and bubble wrap for extra protection. I prefer to overpack a brooch, as they are too special to risk breakage.
Step 7: Done
Now you are done! Usually, the buyer will message you once brooch has arrived and if not don’t stress about it. They’ll let you know if it doesn’t arrive!
