Tips To Buying Deer Arrow Brooches

Deer Arrow has the reputation of having beautiful brooches but selling out extremely fast! In a normal Deer Arrow release pieces sell out between less than 1 minute to usually around 8 minutes. They are one of the fastest selling brands. This can scare lots of people and without using the right technique you have a low chance of being successful in a release. That’s why I’m writing this post, to help you have a better chance at buying a Deer Arrow brooch from a release. However, this does not ensure that you will get one.

You can find more brooch makers here.

Greed

The most important thing here is to NOT be greedy! When I say this I referring to how many pieces you buy and put into your cart at a time.

I have been caught out in one of my first purchases with Deer Arrow, going for a brooch and then going back for another couple. This resulted in them all jumping out of my cart while paying and adding more.

You may be able to be greedy with other makers, but this is not another maker, it’s Deer Arrow.

Prioritise

My tactic is to prioritise. For every release I work out beforehand exactly what I want, you may want lots of pieces from a release but have a list next to you of your top 2-3 pieces you want to get. It is okay if you want more pieces, I have been able to get 6-8 pieces in releases.

When you head into the release go for a maximum of 2 brooches in your cart at a time, to be safe I only ever put 1 brooch into my cart before I check out. This ensures that you will at least get your first preference instead of adding more pieces and have brooches flying out of your cart while you add more.

Once you have checked out your first pieces you can go back and get another, then do the same process with all the others that you want while they’re still available.

The only problem with this is that if you spend over $100 you get free shipping but adding them one by one means you have to pay for shipping.

Then you can email Deer Arrow within 24 hours to ask for a refund on all the extra shipping from your other orders. It’s lots of extra work for the Deer Arrow ladies to do this and it’s really lovely how they do let you do this. This process can be annoying but it’s worth it if you get what you want.

Before the Release

About 5-10 minutes before the release make sure you go onto the Deer Arrow website and login. If you make an account with Deer Arrow you can save your address that way it’s automatic when you pay and you don’t have to wast time putting it in.

Also make sure if you use PayPal that you login on the Deer Arrow website through your account, that way you don’t have to login while going through the checkout.

If you are doing a bank deposit have your phone next to you as when your paying in the checkout you will need to put in a code sent from your phone. It’s a good idea to have your phone with you regardless as sometimes PayPal does the same thing.

Some people recommend checking out a small item such as a empty box beforehand or in your cart, but I don’t think this is necessary if you have done past orders, but would recommend if it’s your first order with them, that way your address will be saved if you’re logged into a Deer Arrow account.

Use a Computer

Make sure you use a computer! Using a phone or iPad/tablet is a death sentence with Deer Arrow releases. Computers are faster to use and much easier, especially with refreshing and going back for more pieces after you check out.

Time

I usually like to check beforehand if my clock on my computer is too slow or fast. This is beacause if you refresh the page at what you believe is 12:00 pm and it’s really 12:01 pm then you could miss out on a lot!

This happens to lots of people, who then going to complain about how the release was up early, etc. However, Deer Arrow release are never up early, it’s just your clock is wrong!

To check your clock you can simply look up on the internet ‘(location of where you live) live time’ for me it’s ‘Perth live time with seconds’.

Refresh the ‘New’ Page

About 1-2 minutes before start refreshing the Deer Arrow website page nonstop until you see the brooches appear.

If you are on the home screen then you can only preview 5 items, so I suggest refreshing the ‘new’ page under ‘shop’ that way you can see all the pieces available and not waste precious time clicking on ‘new’.

Stress

Make sure you don’t over stress. These releases can be so stressful! Your hand shakes you start sweating, basically you can easily be overwhelmed with anxiety!

To help think of this strategy like this: ‘quick view’, ‘add to cart’, ‘pay’, ‘shop’, ‘quick view’, ‘add to cart’, ‘pay’.

If You Miss a Brooch

If a pieces sells out while your paying don’t freak out! Go to the shop page and get the next brooch on your wish list. If you have a brooch that you know lots want such as a Diego their is a good chance that you will miss it.

A good example of this is the highly collectable Diego’s. For the pink and blue Diego 2.0 many people who had all the other Diego’s missed out. I timed this release and the pink sold in exactly 1 minutes and the blue at 1 minute 30 seconds!

If you do miss out their is a good chance that you will be able to either swap or buy it in the future. If it’s not limited (if it is limited; then that will be mentioned in the products name) then you can have another chance at getting it too! Plus there is always another brooch! You’ll probably forget about the one you missed by next week!

Ebay

If you missed out don’t go onto eBay and place a high bid on the item you missed out on. I see this happen so much, and I know that people end up paying lots for that brooch because their desperate.

An example of this is the sunset Diego. Because only 86 were made many missed out and bid on the first sunset Diego that hit Ebay. The bid ended at over $500 and later in the year they were selling for $350. That’s still high but the point is that the prices almost always goes down after time.

Do Not Complain

What ever you do please do NOT go onto Facebook brooch groups and complain about ‘how unfair it is that Deer Arrow makes limited pieces’ or ‘how it went up 1 minute to early’ or ‘how your internet sucks’, ‘how people buy so you’ll miss out’ all that type of talk.

Deer Arrow is a small business and they try their best to make as many brooches as they can. The demand is just too high, especially since they are getting more popular.

Thanks so much for sharing your tips! I’m fairly new to brooching and have had great luck with Erstwilder (in terms of snagging things before they sell out. I also love smaller makers), but heard rumors Deer Arrow releases were all but impossible. Thanks to your tips and my own experience, I managed to get all I was after in my first Deer Arrow purchase!! (even DIEGOS!!)
