Broochie Slang 101

Broochie slang can be confusing. If you have not come across it before this slang is mainly used in Facebook groups, such as buy, swap & sell groups. I remember when I first joined brooch groups of Facebook all the slang was overwhelming and confusing. There may not be a lot of it but it’s hard to work out what it means if your only just hearing of it and can take a while to work out what it means.

ISO

ISO stands for ‘I Seek Out’. An ISO is a brooch that you’re looking for that has already been released. Lots of broochies have ISO lists which they check off over time and will post in groups to see if anyone has what they’re looking for. This is also a very common term used in Facebook brooch buy, swap & sell groups.

DISO

DISO stands for ‘Desperately I Seek Out’ or ‘Desperately In Search Of’. A DISO is like an ISO brooch except you want it more, hence the ‘desperately’. DISO’s are the brooches you want so badly more than any other of your ISO’s. This term as common like ISO and is used to show that you want your DISO brooch way more than any of your ISO’s.

NIL

NIL stands for ‘Next In Line’. When an item has been sold in a group you can comment NIL, that way if the sale goes through with the first person you will be the next person to be able to purchase the item. This is a very common term in brooch buy, swap and sell groups especially on sell posts with rare brooches being sold.

PM

PM stands for ‘Private Message’. You most likely have come across it before but if you are like me who have more experience with Instagram over Facebook than a PM is the same as a DM, except it’s on Facebook not Instagram. PMs are mainly used to talk to friends on Facebook but are used in brooch groups when sending contact details or questions to sellers, buyers of people who you may swap a brooch with.

Unicorn

Not to be confused with the mythical creature, a ‘unicorn’ is basically the same as an ISO and DISO. It’s a brooch that you are seeking out. I would say a unicorn is closer to an DISO than an ISO but really it could be either. The term unicorn is common but it’s less common than ISO and DISO.

BNIB

BNIB stands for ‘brand new in box’. This is used when someone is selling a brooch and it has not been taken out of the box, meaning it hasn’t been worn.

LOOP

LOOP stands for ‘listed on other platforms’ or ‘listed in other places’. This is used on Facebook groups when someone has a brooch for sale and they have listed it on other groups.

EUC

EUC stands for ‘excellent used condition’. This is used on selling pages for a brooch that has been worn/used and is in ‘excellent’ condition, usually meaning it has no faults or scratches.

FOMO

FOMO stands for ‘fear of missing out’. Usually this term is used after a popular release and people are paying ridiculously high because they are scared of missing out on that brooch.

NWOB

NWOB stands for ‘new without box’. This is used on selling pages if a brooch being sold is new but has not box or card that it originally came with.

BOTD

BOTD stands for ‘Brooch Of The Day’. It’s not a very common term but you do see it occasionally. Usually it’s used for a brooch being featured in a photo

OOTD

OOTD stands for ‘outfit of the day’. Like BOTD it’s not very common and it’s basically the same thing. Usually it’s for a photo of a broochie and the brooch they wore that day.
